Who İs Kavalalı Mehmet Ali Pasha?

Curated by Professor Baha Tanman, chairman of the board of Istanbul Research Institute, "From the shores of the Nile to the Bosphorous" is a small yet impressive exhibition that is on display at the Istanbul Research Institute (IRI).

IRI was opened in 2007 and holds some of the most interesting exhibitions in the city. (All free!) Located on a famous, historical street, parallel to the main pedestrian street of the city, Istiklal Street, IRI is definitely worth a visit!

The exhibition displays the story of Kavalalı Mehmet Ali Pasha, Governor of Egypt in the 19th century, and his dynasty, as his descendants embark on a journey from the streets of Cairo to the shores of Constantinople.

Portraits of individuals, their grandeur properties, personal items, letters, and photographs on display all prove the distinct status of Kavalalı Mehmet Ali Pasha’s dynasty in Egypt which has left an indelible mark on the history of the Middle East.
