Chimera
Located near the village of Çıralı on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, Chimera—also known as Yanartaş—is famous for its eternal flames that have been burning from the rocky hillside for thousands of years.
These naturally occurring fires, fueled by methane gas seeping through cracks in the earth, were revered in ancient times and inspired the myth of the fire-breathing Chimera beast in Greek mythology.
Visitors can reach the site via a short uphill hike, best experienced at dusk when the flames glow dramatically against the darkening sky.
Surrounded by pine trees and ancient ruins, the site offers a mystical atmosphere that blends nature, legend, and history in one unforgettable location.
