Galata Neighborhood
Galata neighborhood is one of the most picturesque and fun neighborhoods in the city. There is always something going on here!
The 14th century Galata Tower is the main landmark of the neighborhood. There are several streets around the tower that lead to the tower and have a great view. The tower was built by the Genoese in order to watch the ship traffic on the entrance of the Bosphorus. Genoese were living around this part of town and they even had their own walls and fortifications.
Our favorite street in this neighborhood is Serdar-ı Ekrem Street where there are more ‘Istanbulite’s hanging around and less visitors.
In the last decade, Galata went through many changes. It became a more hip neighborhood with designer stores, cool cafes and restaurant. It is definitely worth checking out.
